    A 63-year-old woman was taken into protective custody Oct. 9 after she was found sleeping in the former Hamilton Drug Building, the new annex to the Colfax branch of the county library. Police early that day responded to a report of the woman loitering at Cougar Food Mart. She declined to accept arrangements which were made for housing and was later found sleeping in the Hamilton building which had been left unlocked. She was taken to the Whitman Hospital and Medical Center....

    Uniontown Community Building will host its annual all-ages Halloween Party Oct. 26 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Activities will include a pumpkin walk for prizes, fishing, costume contest, craft table and games. Each child will receive a pumpkin as well.     An off-road accident Sunday afternoon southwest of LaCrosse took the life of an Endicott resident, Amanda Drewer, 19, who was a passenger in a 1988 Chevrolet Suburban driven by Taylor Martin, 19, LaCrosse. Martin was seriously injured in the accident and taken by Med-Star helicopter to Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane, according to Sheriff Brett Myers.     Voters in Palouse will decide a levy lid lift proposal on ballots for the first time Nov. 5. The measure, which would raise the town’s property tax limit, was approved for placement on the ballot by the city council this summer. Palouse Mayor Michael Echanove said the purpose of the levy is to make up for losses in state support along with creating a long-term strategy to pay for the fire department.     A downpour late in the afternoon Tuesday, Oct 8, in the Diamond area dropped enough water to launch a car hulk from a gully onto Shields Road. Deputy Bryce Nebe, who responded to a report of a traffic hazard on Shields Road at 5:38 p.m., said he discovered the 1940s era sedan on the roadway.     A “Coming Together for Recycling Summit,” has been scheduled Oct. 23 at 6:30 p.m. at the Rosalia Community Center, according to Judi Dunn-Gray, county recycling and waste reduction manager.
