Lamont This deer was shot by Chris Shields Saturday morning on the Ed Shields ranch. It was probably the largest deer killed so far in the area and also, one of the few bucks seen in the Lamont area. KatiAnn Watson The memorial mass for KatiAnn Watson, 63, long time resident of Colfax, will be celebrated at 4 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 23, 2009 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Colfax. Mrs. Watson died on Sunday, Oct. 18, 2009 at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane. Dusty Dusty B.B. Club met last week Tuesday at the home of Li Ochs where they made more than 30 baby blankets for the free maternity clinic at Providence Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane. Hostesses were Helen and Joyce Appel. Roll call was donations of money or food to FISH. Meet Evelyn Beck, St. John After their first year of marriage, Evelyn and Roger Beck decided they wanted to move about 100 miles from their families in North Idaho. When Roger was offered a job in St. John, Evelyn didn’t at first realize she was returning to Whitman County. “It’s very interesting that we ended up living here,” Evelyn noted. Fifteen people attended the Rural Heritage project open house at the St John branch of Whitman County Library. Activities at the open house included a continuous slide show and assistance in using the heritage project and other library resources for family research. The Garfield-Palouse FFA team won the Oct. 7 Whitman County Soils judging contest. Left to right are Raymond Brown, soil scientist, Chad Redman, Missy Johnson, Advisor Buddy Carter, Tiona Shea, J.B. With its state funds spent, the Palouse River and Coulee City Rail Authority is considering what its course of action should be in the future or if it has a future at all. The authority was formed in March of 2008 to meet a state mandate for getting $8.7 million to upgrade the rail network. The authority was formed and the funds have since been spent on a variety of railroad upgrades. A formal charge of second degree theft was filed with a summons in superior court Wednesday against David Sanchez, 19, Pullman, after officers allege they recovered stolen items from his residence. The police report said the suspect was located through log-on information which was revealed when he turned on one of the missing items, an iPod Touch. Engineers for the city and state Department of Transportation checked out the S. Main bridge in Colfax at an early morning meeting today. The city and state have been advancing a plan to provide improved ramp access to the south end of the bridge.
