Yesterday, they swung open the doors on a building that once was the location of Citizens State Bank on Crosby Street. They have remodeled the building, which last housed an insurance agency, into Sweet Peaz, a children’s boutique. When the Clarks moved to Tekoa from Enumclaw, they moved into a turn-of-the century house on top of the Main Street hill. The house at one time was the home of...

A Probing Look at My Colonoscopy W. BRUCE CAMERON As I revealed in my column last week, my primary physician wanted me to have a colonoscopy because she was worried that the way things were going with my health care this year I might not exceed my deductible. She sent me to a specialist: a man who specializes in taking a camera and, well, tailgating people with it. I did not want to meet this man. The specialist, Doctor Cattleprod, was very jovial. “I’ve done 14,000 of these, so I’ve seen everything,” he assured me. “Everything?” I gulped. “So...

The article last week also compared the difference between the sales totals to the prices placed on the lots when they were offered to t...

Prior to the amendment, the county was faced with a $310,812 gap between revenue and expenditures this year, but heads of various county departments “found” $196,892 to cut. “This is the template we will use for 2010,” said Commissioner Greg Partch. “With this, a balanced budget for next year is totally doable.” The county entered 2009 with an anticipated $29,671 surplus. That shrank when revenue...
