Clarence was born in Stillwell, IL, to Charles and Laura Howard on May 17, 1915. His family moved to Quincy, IL, where his brother Arthur was born, and then to Aberdeen, SD, where his sister Dorothy was born. They settled in northern Idaho in 1929. Clarence loved music and learned to play the ukulele, mandolin, guitar and violin by the age of 12. Carl passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and while holding his bride of 58 years' hand, on Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2018, at Spokane Veterans Home. Carl was born on Dec. 3, 1935, in Colfax, WA, to his parents Banner and Beulah Ray, joining his 3 brothers Marvin, Marion and Floyd. He graduated from Colfax High School in 1953 where he excelled in baseball and golf. Colfax Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts will conduct their annual "Scouting for Food" drive Saturday, beginning at approximately 9 a.m. Scouts and Cubs in Troop 595 distributed donation bags on Thorn Hill and the north end of town on Saturday, and scouts and cubs in Troop 550 will distribute bags in the southwest corner of town Wednesday after school. The annual county winter snow and ice control notice was issued Monday by Brandon Kruger, operations manager of the county Public Works Department. First priority for plowing will be the county's paved roads, and second priority will be remaining school bus and mail route roads. The report notes the gravel roads will not be plowed unless snow fall exceeds six inches and drifting conditions develop. A 30-foot diameter yurt has been added to Bluewood for the upcoming ski season, according to today's edition of the Waitsburg Times. The $40,000 yurt has been located at the top of the Skyline chair lift and will have a fireplace and a propane grill. The yurt will offer food service to skiers who ride the chair lift to the top of the mountain, and the resort is applying for a beer and wine license. Farmington Fire Department volunteers will hold their annual pancake and sausage dinner Wednesday, Nov. 14, at the Farmington Town Hall/Community Center.
