A memorial service for Elbert (JR) Young, 73, will be at 11 a.m. today, Thursday, Nov. 10, at the Palouse Federated Church with the Rev. Corey Laughary officiating. Potlatch VFW and a US Army honor guard will participate. Mr. Young died Nov. 2, 2011, at his home in Palouse. He was the owner of the Family Café in Palouse. Colfax senior Morgan Willson Saturday morning posted a big win in the girls state B cross country race at Sun Willows golf course in Pasco. Willson finished at 18:36, 49 seconds ahead of Sierra Speiker of Oroville. The two competitors ran away from the 71 runners who launched on the Pasco golf course this year. The day’s full program was delayed for 30 minutes because the Sun Willows course was covered by frost in the early morning hours. Sarah Appel and Clare Jacobs, both Colfax, placed third and fourth, respectively, in the junior division of the state Make It With Wool competition Oct. 29 in Olympia. The competition is held in conjunction with the annual convention of the Washington State Sheep Producers Association. This year 18 contestants modeled garments they had sewn with fabric that was at least 60 percent wool. Dusty Guests visit from Twin Falls Steve and Fran Maki hosted Mike and Val Quesnell of Twin Falls, Idaho, friends since their college days, from Thursday to Saturday last week. Friday, they toured the Pataha Flour Mill in Pomeroy. Last Tuesday, David and Phyllis Stueckle and Ann Emerson, LaCrosse, went to Coulee Dam to visit the women’s aunt, Audrey Manning, who had been in ill health. Manning died Friday morning. After a 43-0 shutout of Asotin in the SE crossover round, Colfax Bulldogs will face off against Warden Friday night on their home field for the first round of the state playoffs. Operations are expected to generate more revenue for the Port of Whitman than the agency’s property tax levy next year. The agency’s 2012 budget proposal shows income of $1,177,000 from its industrial parks and fiber optic network, while the 37 cent levy is projected to bring in $1,081,000.
