Volunteers are needed to help with KREM 2 Tom’s Turkey Drive at Rosauers Nov. 20-21. Volunteers and KREM 2 staffers will sell Thanksgiving dinner supplies with a turkey for $15 at Rosauers. The purchases will be donated to the Colfax F.I.S.H. food pantry. Tom’s Turkey Drive is an annual event put on by KREM 2 at various Rosauers stores around the Inland Northwest. Zachary Patrick Smith A mass of Christian burial for Zachary Patrick Smith, 17, senior at Tekoa High School, was Monday, Nov. 9, at 2 p.m. at the Tekoa High School gymnasium. LaCrosse The Lady Tigercats finished second in district volleyball and qualified for a return trip to the state competition in Yakima Friday and Saturday. Lamont The Art Swannack family went steelhead fishing at Heller’s Bar on the Snake River when school was out. The family caught a total of nine keepers, but it was reported Mom caught the most fish. Earl Swift and his grandson, Jared Wollweber, braved the cold and windy day to fish on Sprague Lake Saturday. Neither caught a fish. The group toured the Moody Bible Institute Aviation Program where missionary pilots are trained and the Spokane Turbine Center where they fly the Kodiac airplane made in Sandpoint. Meet Chris and Brandi Davis, Colfax Chris Davis, currently a research associate with WSU’s neuro-science department, came to Pullman in 2000 with his family. After he hung up the phone on his first telephone interview to WSU for studying experimental psychology, he had to find a map to see where Pullman was. Colfax branch of Whitman County Library will host a community blood drive Thursday, Nov. 19, from 1 to 6 p.m. A mobile collection unit from the Inland Northwest Blood Center (INBC) will screen applicants and accept donations of blood. Kayla Hutton, member of the Tekoa FFA chapter, received the American FFA Degree at the 82nd National FFA Convention in Indianapolis on Saturday, Oct. 24. It is the highest degree awarded by the National FFA Organization. Veterans and their families were honored by their communities at the Veterans’ Day Assembly at Garfield-Palouse Middle School Nov. 6. The program, directed by choir director Rebecca Hemphill, featured keynote speaker Brigadier General Carleton Waldrop, an Air Force and Air National Guard veteran who currently serves on the Pullman City Council, and Charlene Baldwin, a Palouse resident and para-educator whose son Jacob Henry Demand gave his life in the service of his country in Iraq in 2004. Massage therapist Tia Fritzche, who specializes in Swedish and deep tissue massage, has been treating clients since September at her rented suite on Canyon Street in Colfax. Massage, she said, is known to lower stress, take out muscle knots, lower blood pressure and help with insomnia, among other health remedies. The Colfax athletic director’s office has been awash in gifts and thank-you notes from the island of Hawaii for allowing the University of Hawaii football team to practice on the Schmuck Park field Oct. 15. Two Palouse area youths have donated funds from their 4H steer earnings to the Palouse Community Center, which may be ready for building by next spring. Wyatt, 11, and Payson Griner, 9, raised steers on their family farm off Highway 27 outside Palouse and sold them at the Palouse Empire Fair junior market sale. Each donated $50 of their earnings to the Palouse Community Center building project. Payson’s steer weighed in at 1,150 pounds, and Wyatt’s steer was 1,340 pounds.
