    The Colfax football season ended Friday at Reardan where the hosts again used their explosive offense to offset a solid Bulldog attempt at an upset. Reardan’s defense and big-play offense advanced the Indians to the first round of the state 2B playoffs as the number-two team out of the NE-SE crossover round.     Colfax volleyball players stitched another three-for-three playoff run Saturday in the regional round at Cheney to nail down a slot in the state 2B finals at the SunDome in Yakima starting Friday. Colfax will return as the defending champion and figure to be one of the target teams for the other entrants in the 16-team show.     St. John/Endicott’s Shania Bailey finished 14th Saturday in the girls all-B state final race at Sun Willows golf course in Pasco, and sophomore Zoe Robertson finished 18th in a race which featured a strong finish for qualifiers from last week’s east side regional at Pasco.     The state playoff road leads west to Odessa for the Garfield-Palouse Vikings.   • Hatley bridge job goes out for bids

    Whitman County commissioners Monday approved a call for bids for the Hatley Bridge Reconstruction project. The project will reconstruct a concrete, single-span bridge on the Pullman-Wawawai Road, to be paid for with funding from the Federal Bridge Replacement fund. The span was built in the 1960s and is now moving off its foundation. The county has previously reduced the speed limit for the bridge and limited crossing to one truck on the span at a time.   • Commission okays revised veterans’ relief fund plan

    Whitman County commissioners on Nov. 3 approved a resolution on veterans’ relief payments which was revised after they received objections to the initial proposal. As approved, the payments will still have a $2,500 annual payment per veteran, but the payments can be made in increments during the year. A month ago, Roy Lord and Charles Klaudt told the commissioners they objected to a proposed change which called for a one-time payment of up to $2,500.     The 22nd annual Washington Cattlemen’s Association, all breed bull test started three weeks ago when 133 bulls consigned by 49 breeders were weighed. The weigh-in begins the 120-day feed trial. The consignment consists of 73 Angus, 33 Herefords (12 Polled, 21 Horned), seven Red Angus, seven SimAngus and 13 Simmental. The bulls are fed under the supervision of Bob and Nina Lundgren at their Bonina Feed Facility at Eltopia.     The Whitman County Commissioners Monday voted to vacate a half-mile gravel section of Charles Tobin Road near Hooper at the request of landowners. Also vacated were six right-of-way parcels along Colfax Airport Road. The land parcels were determined surplus after completion of the Airport Road reconstruction project in the summer of 2013.   • World War II photo plane moved here for restoration

    A long-term restoration of a 1943 airplane which was used for photo reconnaissance in World War II is scheduled to get underway in Colfax. Kenneth Kennedy, who has moved here from Paul, Idaho, has rented a hangar from the Port of Whitman at the Colfax Airport to store the plane. Kennedy, now retired, and his brother, Kevin, are planning the project. Kevin is still employed by Boeing, Co., in Seattle, and plans to retire in two years and assist in the project.     In its account of the election returns last week the Gazette incorrectly reported the Farmington propositions had failed to pass. Both propositions passed by topping 60 percent approval. The results after Friday’s count show Proposition 1 with 53 votes approving and 23 votes against, or 70 percent to 30 percent. Proposition 2 is also passing with 54 votes approving and 23 rejecting, or 70 percent to 30 percent. The two propositions failed on the primary election ballot in August....

    The close race between Joe Reynolds and Jim Hawkes for county assessor became even closer Friday after another 4,058 ballots were counted by the county elections staffers Friday afternoon. Reynolds, who led by 252 votes after the election night count, now leads by 152 ballots. Hawkes, chief appraiser on the assessor’s staff, picked up the 100 votes in the added count Friday.     Boyer Park will see additional RV space plus four new cabins added to the park within the next two years. Port of Whitman County Property and Development Manager Debbie Snell explained to port commissioners a new map showing the proposed sites for the projects at the Nov. 6 meeting.     The city of Tekoa will reactivate its Unfit Dwelling Committee after discussion among city council members at their Oct. 27 meeting.     Tekoa and Colton school districts are both looking to replace their football lights after they were deemed a problem over the summer. Colton has played afternoon games this fall as a result, while Tekoa-Rosalia played two night games at the Tekoa field, completing the last season of use for the lights.
