Colfax football players were named to 18 of the 25 all-league slots in the all NE first team for 2B division football. Senior Tyler McNannay topped all players by being named to four positions. McNannay was named all-NE running back, linebacker, punter and kicker. Tuffy Hickman and Austin Neu, also seniors, and Brent Conrad, a junior, were named to both first team lines. This year 67 beef carcasses were evaluated in the 2010 Palouse Empire Fair Beef Carcass of Merit and Premier Steer contests. Winners were announced at the awards program Oct. 20, 2010 at the Palouse Empire Fairground. First Place in the McIntosh-Reeves Carcass of Merit contest was Caleb Hannas of Hooper. Caleb’s name was engraved on the Joe Palumbo Memorial Traveling Trophy along with all the names of past winners. Cattlemen slate annual dinner meet Annual meeting of the Whitman County Cattlemen will be Tuesday, Nov. 23, with a sponsored social hour starting at 5:30 p.m. and dinner at 6:30 p.m. at the Palouse Empire Fair Community Building. Dale Edward Stover A graveside service for Dale Edward Stover, 84, retired Endicott farmer, will be Friday, Nov. 19, at the Colfax Cemetery at 11 a.m. A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Endicott with Pastor Philip Misner officiating. Mr. Stover died Nov. 13, 2010, at Whitman Hospital in Colfax. Oakesdale Everyone is welcome to attend an 82nd birthday party for Wanda Roper at the Fire Station in Oakesdale, Sunday, Nov. 21, at 1 p.m. The event is hosted by her children and grandchildren. Local Boy Scouts collected 430 pounds of canned food for their local food drive project Saturday. The food has been donated to the local Oakesdale Tree of Sharing. Living on the farm, Duane Mickelsen felt early stirrings to pursue a career as a veterinarian when he treated animals on days when local vets gave long-distance advice on their days off. USDA payments to Whitman County farmers enrolled in the Average Crop Revenue Election, or ACRE program, received $16.1 million in payments for the 2009 crop year. For the 514 farms enrolled in the ACRE program, the payments equate to a per farm average of more than $31,322. The county office of the Farm Service Agency has 1,721 farms on its records.
