Tekoa A cow moose and a young bull have been spotted at many locations in Tekoa. Dave and Laurie Shrope, living on the south side of town, have discovered moose noseprints on their front window, and were startled when they opened their drapes one morning to see the cow moose staring back at them. Meet Mary Kaye Stelzer, Pine City When Mary Kaye Stelzer was four years old, she started to collect horse figures. She never had a horse of her own growing up, but purchased the little figurines in Pine City, Thornton and Colfax. “I even liked the smell of horses when I was a kid,” Mary Kaye recalled. Whitman Hospital employees Dustin McGillic, left, and Gary Johnson loaded food donations for the F.I.S.H. Food Bank in Colfax. Approximately 580 pounds of food were donated by hospital staffers, according to Laurie Gronning, marketing coordinator at the hospital. Staffers put together a collection of soup mixes, noodles, sauces, and other food supplies for the food pantry which was exceptionally low this September. Two bridge replacements, completion of the reconstruction of Almota Road and miscellaneous small projects are on the horizon for Whitman County’s Public Works Department next year. The latest Habitat for Humanity project in Palouse is already looking like a house that will eventually be a home. The new three-bedroom, single story house in Palouse now has siding, windows and doors and could be completed by March, said Habitat president Brent Bradberry. “The foundation is in, the walls are in, the windows are in, the doors are in,” Bradberry said. Whitman County’s Superior courtroom is looking to get a makeover. Superior Court Administrator Sonya Miller said the court will receive new doors, new tables for attorneys, a digital evidence projector and a 63-inch video monitor. The projector will display digital images of evidence and documents on the monitor. Miller said it is a high-tech version of an overhead projector.
