Fire destroyed a garage the night of Dec. 5 in the Sunnyside Hill section of Pullman, but Pullman and District 12 firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading to a two-story residence. The fire at 735 High Street was reported shortly after 6 p.m. Flames from the burning garage could be seen by fire crews as they responded along S. Grand. Michael E. McCarthy, 47, St. John resident who faces charges related to alleged burglaries and car prowls in St. John, was allowed release on his own recognizance Friday in superior court. Prosecutor Denis Tracy said he was informed McCarthy was released from Whitman Hospital Friday morning after being stabilized with a physical condition. Pullman Police have arrested a suspect after investigating reports of indecent exposure on Pullman Transit buses. Andrew M. Payne, 21, was arrested Tuesday, Dec. 11, and police report they believe he committed four of the indecent exposure incidents reported to the department. Pullman and WSU police started investigating the case after receiving the first report Nov. 8. Chris Fitzgerald, 22, Pullman, was sentenced to 364 days in jail with 363 suspended Dec. 7 after he pleaded guilty to an amended charge of solicitation to possess a controlled substance. He was also fined $5,000 and ordered to pay costs and fees. Fitzgerald was charged with possession of cocaine last May after Pullman Police responded to a report of a man hitting a vehicle. Sixth graders debuted their new choir at Monday’s holiday concert at the Colfax High School auditorium. Director Cary Cammack said the new choir was created after the seventh and eighth graders were moved from Jennings Elementary to the high school. Funeral services for Ruth M. Daman, 90, were Saturday, Dec. 15, at the Tensed Community Church. Dr. Glenn Daman and Pastor Tom Owen officiated. Mrs. Daman died Dec. 10 at her home near DeSmet. Funding support from the Avista Foundation and Friends of the Library will mean residents of Lamont will have library service after approving a ballot proposal to annex the town to the Whitman County Library District.
