LIND - People gathered from miles around to witness the destruction of farm equipment at the 35th annual Lind Lions Club combine derby on Saturday, June 8. COLFAX — The Innovia Foundation has awarded $1,089,400 in grants to 112 organizations in Eastern Washington and North Idaho through its annual Community Grants Program. A total of $80,000 was distributed to organizations in Whitman County, including a $10,000 grant to the Community Action Center to develop an affordable home community for six low-income families in Rosalia. ROSALIA - Battle Days brought the community together for a weekend of celebration and honor in Rosalia. The fun began at 3:30 p.m. with free swimming and games at the pool. ROSALIA — The day was August 14, 1935, when alarms sounded throughout the town while bank robbers fled, killing the local town marshal. Marshal Albert “Bert” Lemley, 58, fired shots at the desperadoes in the Bank of Rosalia’s window. TEKOA — The John Wayne Trail Riders are on the trail again this year, riding horse drawn carriages along the trail. Riders started on Friday, May 24, and are now in Malden for a rest day on Thursday, May 30. The trail riders will set out from Malden on Friday, May 31, going 10 miles were they will set up camp in Rosalia. ROSALIA - The Rosalia Fire Department District 7 was dispatched for a house fire off U.S. Highway 195 near the rest area at approximately 5:45 p.m., on Friday, May 24.
