    DUSTY — Dick and Helen Appel had a very quiet Christmas. Only two families — Bruce and Elaine Appel, Charlie and Spenser of Spokane; and Caroline and Rob Kunkel, Zach, Kade, Elly and Luciene, all of Pullman — brought Christmas dinner to the grandparents.     COLFAX-The Fireman's Toy Box give-away last week provided toys to more than 200 Whitman County youth, according to organizer Bill Knox. While down some from last year's 267 total, Knox said volunteers met their goal. Fundraising this year was very successful, Knox said. He has been overseeing the Toy Box for more than 30 years.     LaCROSSE — The Washington Trust for Historic Preservation awarded $2,000 to LaCrosse Community Pride for renovation of the rock house service station. The grant will help pay for engineering drawings for the service station, which is being renovated into the Ice Age Floods Visitor Center and Heritage Museum.
