Hunters were well fed this weekend and had their choice of where to go for breakfast. Saturday morning hunters and townspeople enjoyed breakfast at the Endicott Food Center. Organizer Jenny Meyer hovered over the stove cooking scrambled eggs and said about 65 hunters and local residents were served Saturday morning. Windy Tevlin made the transition from Folger’s girl to gourmet espresso lover when she opened her new shop in Garfield. Since she and Tom own Garfield Meats, known locally as the Meat Shop, a coffee shop would naturally be Meet Shop II. Dusty Christopher and Justus Heaton arrived Saturday night from Arizona to spend a few days with parents/grandparents, Blake and Carmen Heaton. While here, Justus shot his first deer. The Healthy Tekoa Coalition (HTC) will present the first annual Fall Family Carnival Saturday, Oct. 19, from 3-5 p.m. at Tekoa grade school. The carnival will include 17 activity tables with a fish pond, spinning wheel, dolphin ring toss, cupcake walk, bobbing for apples and face-painting. There will also be contests for coloring, costume and bubble gum-blowing. Pullman Regional Hospital Oct. 1 marked the beginning of open enrollment for Washington state’s health-insurance exchange under the Affordable Care Act Exchange. The first open enrollment period is Oct. 1 to March 31, 2014. Consumers must enroll in a plan during that time for coverage to start Jan. 1, 2014. Colfax Boy Scout Carson Cloaninger donated $87 to kickoff the Colfax Firefighers annual Toybox drive. The donation came about as a result of excess produced by Cloaninger’s gardening merit badge project at the family’s farm in the Green Hollow Road area. Carson’s merit-made garden produced such a bountiful garden that he decided to sell the excess produce and turn the proceeds over to the Toybox project. Many farmers have no hobbies, other than farming, that is. Dave Fulfs is the exception to that rule in a big way. Dave likes to drive tractor and combine and make parts runs.
