Pullman Regional Hospital Oct. 1 marked the beginning of open enrollment for Washington state’s health-insurance exchange under the Affordable Care Act Exchange. The first open enrollment period is Oct. 1 to March 31, 2014. Consumers must enroll in a plan during that time for coverage to start Jan. 1, 2014. St. John 4H and FFA members will host a chili feed and silent auction to raise funds for the Community Fair and Support Fund Saturday, Oct. 12, from 5:30 to 8 p.m., at the St. John Community Building. Colfax Boy Scout Carson Cloaninger donated $87 to kickoff the Colfax Firefighers annual Toybox drive. The donation came about as a result of excess produced by Cloaninger’s gardening merit badge project at the family’s farm in the Green Hollow Road area. Carson’s merit-made garden produced such a bountiful garden that he decided to sell the excess produce and turn the proceeds over to the Toybox project. Many farmers have no hobbies, other than farming, that is. Dave Fulfs is the exception to that rule in a big way. Dave likes to drive tractor and combine and make parts runs. He plans to work on the farm a couple of more years. World War II veteran Jesse Davis of Colton traveled to Washington, D.C., Sept. 24 -25 on an Inland Northwest Honor Flight. The chartered flight departed from Spokane International Airport on Sept. 24 at 8 a.m. with 85 WWII veterans and one terminally ill Vietnam veteran. When Julie Green was a little girl, she began playing violin. After her class gave a recital to students at Jennings Elementary in Colfax, Keith Niehenke went home from kindergarten and announced that he wanted to play violin like that little red-haired girl. She was four years old, and he was five when they met in Suzuki violin lessons. Dusty Sunday, Selbu Lutheran Church welcomed the Daughters of Norway from the Freya Lodge in Spokane for the morning worship services.
