Pullman’s National Lentil Festival is seeking art submissions for its 2013 commemorative poster. The artwork will be used for all festival merchandise and advertising for the 2013 event and will be submitted for awards from the Western Festivals & Events Association as well as the International Festivals & Events Association. Otto O. Stevens will present his photos of the Palouse area, a collection called “South from Spokane,” at the Colfax Library Monday, Jan. 7, at noon. The 30-minute presentation features a slideshow of beautiful digital images along with live narration. Attendees can bring a sack lunch or just come to watch. Rosalia’s Community Food Drive for the first week in December finished with 1,875 items donated. High school, middle school and elementary school students competed to bring in the most food donations in a “Munch Madness” tournament format. The fourth grade class won the tournament with a pizza party and an ice cream tournament. The food drive tripled the total items from last year’s food drive. Whitman County Library is pleased to announce the hiring of Tia Langston as branch manager in the Endicott Library. She replaces Laura Jones who will be relocating to Oregon. Langston grew up in Endicott and is excited to continue the tradition of library service that she remembers as a child. Meet Kris Kackman, Colfax Kris and Jim Kackman feel blessed to live in the town where they grew up. Kris’ parents are Jim and Kathy Lemon, and Jim’s parents are Don and Chris Kackman. John Kehne, Whitman County Library Trustee of 10 years, was honored by library staff, friends and fellow trustees during the library’s winter luncheon at the Colfax library. Kehne served twice as chairman and helped steer the library through some major changes including the $1 million renovation of the Colfax Library and the annexation of six towns into the library district.
