Summer Reading tops 30 at Tekoa Tekoa Library Summer Reading for kids was a great success. Youngsters 0-12 who completed over 10 hours of reading numbered more than 30 and were rewarded with prizes and goodies provided by Tekoa businesses, according to Diane Harp, Tekoa Library branch manager. Teen and adult summer reading continues through August 30. The library has a large selection of free paperbacks on the exchange rack. They are books which readers are not required to return. Jenny Hansen, Rotary International exchange student from Norway, took this farewell photo in downtown Colfax just before departing for the Spokane Airport to begin her trip back to Norway July 3. Inland Northwest Community Foundation (INWCF) is accepting applications for the Community Strategies Grant Program. The application period began July 16 and ends Aug. 28. The program supports projects related to human services, community/economic development, education, environmental preservation and arts and culture. Heidi Jamison graduated this spring from Garfield-Palouse High School, but in her community, her culinary claim to fame are her delicious pies. The daughter of Rusty and Sandy Jamison, she has been very active in FFA, including FFA offices at her chapter and at district level, taking pigs to the fair, placing third in the creed contest her freshman year and running for state office. The Palouse Chamber of Commerce will present the Palouse Music Festival July 28 at Hayton-Greene Park in Palouse. Season F. Hollaway, 35, was unhurt July 4 when the 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe she was driving collided with a deer on Highway 195 at mile 43.5 north of Colfax. According to the Washington State Patrol report, she was driving southbound at 12:50 a.m. when the deer jumped into the lane of traffic. Eric Reichmuth, 50, Pullman, was unhurt Monday when the 1986 Mazda pickup he was driving on the Moscow-Pullman Highway collided with a deer at mile 9.75. The city’s six-year street plan proposal was submitted to the Colfax city council Monday night. Public Works Director Andy Rodgers noted the plan serves as a sort of shopping list for future projects with funding as the determining factor on what will be finished. The 18th annual Scenic 6 Fiddle Show will be Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012, at 6 p.m. at Potlatch High School. The show features regional fiddlers and folk musicians.
