    Colors is the May Storytime theme at the Colton Library. Each week there will be a craft, stories, and a snack pertaining to a different color. Storytime is held in the library on Mondays at 10:30 a.m. for children ages 1-6. The library is closed on Memorial Day. Ten children completed the TV Free week at the Colton Library in April. Each received a free book. The penny drive in early April netted the library $70.05 for children’s programming. Theme for Summer Reading this year is Dream Big, Read!   • Tekoa dessert auction will benefit fireworks

    The annual dessert auction to raise money for fireworks for Slippery Gulch Days will be June 1 at the community center. It will begin with burgers and chips served from C&D Bar & Grill. The auction will begin at 7 p.m. and feature cookies, pies and other desserts made by residents of Tekoa. John Heaton and Jim Thompson will serve as auctioneers. The fireworks cost approximately $5,000 each year with proceeds from the dessert auction carrying to the following year....

    Juni Fisher is scheduled to perform at Artisans at the Dahmen Barn in Uniontown Saturday, June 2, at 7:30 p.m. Fisher’s name is synonymous with the kind of song writing that, according to one promoter, “Plumbs the depth of your soul…”. Born in the San Joaquin Valley of California, Fisher grew up in a farming family, but between school and countless singing performances with her two sisters, Juni found a way to have horses and 4-H and FFA honors.     Laura and Pete Appel live on Union Flat near Dusty, but Laura grew up on the other end of the flat. Her family homesteaded on Ryan Road south of Ewartsville. The daughter of Bill and Ruth Ryan, Laura has an older sister and a younger brother. She attended Sunnyside Elementary and Lincoln Middle School and graduated from Pullman High School.   • Rosalia Lions at work at Pioneer Riggs Cemetery

    Rosalia Lions club cared for the Pioneer Riggs Cemetery as a community project. The cemetery is located about two miles northeast of Rosalia. In 1889 the plot of ground was donated to the community as a burial ground by Samuel Riggs. The cemetery is on a hill top with a 360 degree view of surrounding hills covered in the different shades of spring green and a beautiful view of Steptoe Butte. I live in a hurricane-prone area, so I keep what I call a “hurricane kit” ready at all times.     Palouse and Whitman conservation districts, along with the Whitman County office of the Natural Resource Conservation Service, can now accept applications for funding to implement measures aimed at improving water quality. Mary Rosen of the Palouse Conservation District reported Monday thatthe agencies which oversee land around the South Fork of the Palouse River have been selected for funding through the NRCS National Water Quality Initiative.     Jazz band seniors received their farewell Monday night at the band’s concert in the CHS auditorium.     Washington State Patrol Trooper Jim Retzer of Colfax received the WSP Officer of the Year award for District 4 from WSP Chief John Batiste in an awards ceremony May 10 at the WSP Academy in Shelton.
