  • Railcar rides to benefit depot work at Potlatch

    Railcars will be back on the tracks at Potlatch July 14 for the ninth annual WI&M Railway History Preservation Group’s history day. The day will offer area residents a chance to take a ride down the tracks in one of the speeder cars which will be brought to the scene by members of the Pacific Railcar Association.     The National Lentil Festival will display original art for the 2012 festival poster in businesses throughout the Palouse. The artwork is currently displayed at Re/Max Home and Land located at 710 SE Bishop Blvd. in Pullman and will be there until the second week of July when it will move to AmericanWest Bank in Pullman. The artwork is a painting by Jacqueline Daisley done specifically for the 2012 National Lentil Festival.     Gazette News Intern On Memorial Day, residents of the Whitman Health & Rehab Center in Colfax were thrilled by the gifts they found themselves to be receiving from a stranger, Joey Reyes Owen. She made 48 quilts and donated them in memory of her father, Fidel Reyes. “It was just a labor of love,” she explained.     A new grant received by Artisans at Dahmen Barn will bring artists into Colton School next year. A total of $8,200 was awarded to the organization earlier this month by the Inland Northwest Community Foundation. Dahmen Barn Manager Leslee Miller is now working to put together the program which will begin in September.     Stephanie Harder of Colfax graduated cum laude from Bentley University in Waltham, Mass., May 19. Commencement speaker was Larry Lucchino, president and CEO of the Red Sox. She majored in marketing and has been hired as a marketing analyst at Digitas, a digital advertising agency in Boston. Her undergraduate activities included serving two years as president of the Bentley Habitat for Humanity organization.
