    Dusty The Dusty community has royalty residing within its confines. Steve Maki won the Palouse Empire Fair Wheat King award for the second year in a row. Mashayla Morris, daughter of Luke and Jennifer Morris, received blue ribbons on both of her pigs during showing at the Palouse Empire Fair. Her brother Quincy received a ribbon in his showing of his calf, Grease, in the Little Cowpoke division. Sarah Maki Smith, Moses Lake, assisted the Mockenema 4H club by shearing 30 of their sheep a couple of weeks ago in preparation for the Palouse Empire... Full story

    Whitman County’s WSU extension agent Steven Van Vleet is looking to add a touch of history to his annual calendar spotlighting barns in Whitman County. For three years, Van Vleet’s calendars have been popular fixtures in homes and offices around the county. The $5 calendar is a top seller, with proceeds benefitting the county’s rural library district. Each month features a different shot of a barn in that month’s weather.     The Colfax alumni luncheon in Spokane Aug. 6 brought a total of 38 people. Special guest of honor was teacher and Coach Jack Bafus. He came to Colfax about 1948 to teach sixth grade at the Martha Washington School. He then went to Jennings Elementary. When Coach Len Pyne retired in 1956, Mr. Bafus became the basketball coach at Colfax High School in 1956 and coached through 1960.     The hospitals warm therapy pool opened in 1997 and we even have one instructor and a few swimmers who have been with the pool from the beginning. The therapy pool temperature is around 90 degrees. The pool is used by our physical therapists and physical therapy assistant to meet specific goals. Once therapy is complete, the patients can use the pool on an independent basis. Our pool is reserved for therapy sessions Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The pool has a lift so that we can even accommodate swimmers who are not able to...
