Sean Neal and Miles Pfaff, Garfield-Palouse High School grads who are now seniors at WSU, were members of a first-place WSU finance team which competed Feb. 21 in Spokane against four other universities in a business report and presentation event. Whitman County Spring Cleanup week has been scheduled April 16-28 for residents. The rate will be $35 per ton with a $15 minimum. A search for a missing Colfax boy was called off at approximately 7:45 p.m. Saturday when he was located under a desk in the basement of his residence. Colfax officers and volunteers had been called out to search for the five-year-old boy after receiving a report that he was missing just before 7 p.m. Chief Bill Hickman said the boy and his younger brother were out playing in their yard without permission. A new open class of competition will be introduced Saturday when the Cub Scouts in the Chief Kamiakin District roll out their championship finals in the Eastside Market Place. The championship race will have an official sponsor this year in Gilbert Auto Ford, and part of that expansion will include new open class races with the general public invited to compete. The deadline for reserving seats for Ice Age Tour 2, sponsored by the Whitman County Historical Society, will be April 16. The society has reserved a 47-seat motor coach to make the trip May 19-20 to tour ancient Glacial Lake Missoula and its outlet through North Idaho. Whitman County Library’s seventh annual Penny Drive will be March 26-April 14 in honor of National Library Week, April 8-14. Each of the 14 library branches will collect money to fund programs or projects that are vital to their location. Last year the library system collected more than $1,060.
