    Whitman County Spring Cleanup week has been scheduled April 16-28 for residents. The rate will be $35 per ton with a $15 minimum. Residents are encouraged to haul in old appliances and other scrap metal, used oil and engine fluids, household cleaners, yard fertilizer and yard trimmings. Recyclables include glass, plastics, aluminum, tin, mixed paper, newspapers and cardboard. Hours at the landfill are 8 to 5 Monday through Saturday.     Rosalia Rosalia Chamber of Commerce is looking for pictures of past Battle Days celebrations in town. They plan to use the pictures to display in a Battle Days collage. Copies of pictures can be mailed to the chamber at Box 132 in Rosalia. Contributors are asked to identify the people in the pictures and attempt to pinpoint the year of the celebration.   • Missing Colfax boy found sleeping at home

    A search for a missing Colfax boy was called off at approximately 7:45 p.m. Saturday when he was located under a desk in the basement of his residence. Colfax officers and volunteers had been called out to search for the five-year-old boy after receiving a report that he was missing just before 7 p.m. Chief Bill Hickman said the boy and his younger brother were out playing in their yard without permission.   • Open class entrants will get Pinewood Derby race chance

    A new open class of competition will be introduced Saturday when the Cub Scouts in the Chief Kamiakin District roll out their championship finals in the Eastside Market Place. The championship race will have an official sponsor this year in Gilbert Auto Ford, and part of that expansion will include new open class races with the general public invited to compete.     The deadline for reserving seats for Ice Age Tour 2, sponsored by the Whitman County Historical Society, will be April 16. The society has reserved a 47-seat motor coach to make the trip May 19-20 to tour ancient Glacial Lake Missoula and its outlet through North Idaho.     Saturday, March 31, Grassville will play “in-your-face bluegrass” at the Dahmen Barn in Uniontown from 7:30 to 9:30. Admission will be $7 at the door. Grassville is a five members band from the North Idaho/Spokane area.   • Library will launch seventh penny drive

    Whitman County Library’s seventh annual Penny Drive will be March 26-April 14 in honor of National Library Week, April 8-14. Each of the 14 library branches will collect money to fund programs or projects that are vital to their location. Last year the library system collected more than $1,060.     A total of 135 residents donated $1,020 in non-perishable food for the 12th annual “Food for Fines” drive conducted by Whitman County Library. Donations came in throughout Whitman County.
