    Bookmark for March 1, 2012 Whitman County Library needs Whitman County Residents’ input to plan for the future. A survey was recently mailed with the library district’s annual newsletter and is also available online at www.whitco.lib.wa.us. Hard copy surveys are now due by March 2 while the online version has been extended to March 4.     Rich and Janet (Neuenschwander) Hilty, formerly of Colfax, recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with their children, grandchildren and friends in Nampa, Idaho, where they have made their retirement home. Both graduates of Colfax High School, they were married Dec. 24, 1961, at the United Methodist Church in Colfax. Both attended Eastern Washington State College where Rich graduated in 1962.     Greta Stueckle was born in Colfax and has spent her entire life living in Colfax and the surrounding Whitman County farms, never straying too far from the land where she has worked to support herself and her family. When Greta married Dick, they worked many farms in Whitman County until they purchased a ranch in Dusty 50 years ago. Dick died in August after a long battle with cancer. Greta now spends many days busily sorting through decades of collected items on the ranch and has found Craigslist as a wonderful tool in cleaning out. She said...

    Jennifer Rod of Moscow, a metal sculptor and painter, will be featured in the Meet the Artist session March 1 at the library in Colfax at 7 p.m. The Meet the Artist series is sponsored by Colfax Arts Council and Whitman County Library. Rod earned her masters degree in Fine Arts from the University of Idaho in painting. She learned steel sculpture about 10 years ago from a friend in Enumclaw who made fish out of steel.     Athenaeum Members gathered at the home of Sherry Cox Feb. 17. Mary Ann Mitchell presented a program on Maude Lillian Bolin. She was a member of a Yakama Indian Tribe and known as Yakama Cow Girl Aviator. Her love of flying combined with her dare devil rodeo adventures made her well known in the county. She flew across the country in 1928, but she was also recognized for many civic contributions. Cindy Jones, Cheryl Alice Van Tine and Ruth Enos were placed on the associate member list.     Bob Hickman of Post Falls, former proprietor of Hickman Boot & Saddlery in Colfax, has been selected as one of 80 artists to participate in the centennial edition show of the Calgary Stampede next July. The Stampede extends the honor on a one-time basis to Western artists from all over the world.
