LaCrosse The LaCrosse Community Pride reminds everyone they can purchase tickets for the Dinner and Comedian Night Oct. 2 from any board member or at the LaCrosse branch of Bank of Whitman. Leif Skyving is a world class comedian who has appeared on the Tonight Show. The dinner menu includes barbecue pork loin and roasted red potatoes with homemade applesauce. Hooper Caleb and Lane Hannas participated in the Palouse Empire Fair. Lane placed with blue ribbons in both fitting and showing and market classes with his steer, while Caleb won grand champion market steer and reserve in fitting and showing. Tapestry singers seek new director, funds Tapestry, the area women’s chorale group which normally performs concert tours during the holiday season and in May, has been seeking a director to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Dale Forrey. The group is also seeking sponsorship funds to pay a director to lead the group. Forrey, who started Tapestry in 1999, moved to Olympia to pursue a new employment opportunity after the spring concert tour. Endicott’s adult summer reading program had 18 participants who turned in the completed book reviews. Aaron Krantz won a drawing for a $20 gift certificate to use at the Endicott Food Center. Librarian Caroline Morasch reported total attendance at the six summer reading programs was 110. Thirty-three Endicott children completed summer reading this year and received a goody-bag containing a book, candies and a free pizza certificate. Craig Van Tine of Colfax won the $100 grand prize in Whitman County Shriners Club’s annual drawing at the Palouse Empire Fair Rodeo Sunday. Proceeds from the raffle, which is conducted during the fair, benefit the Shriners projects, including support at the junior market stock sale. Judging chocolate isn’t just about sampling a variety of yummy desserts and picking a favorite. It’s about carefully dissecting the flavor, crumb texture and consistency of each piece. It’s about scrutinizing the appeal, both to the eye and the tongue. Then all these factors have to be given a number on a scale which will eventually determine the best. Renown quilter, author and teacher Margaret Miller of Bremerton drew a large crowd to the Colfax Library for the kickoff season of the Meet the Artist series. Miller, whose books contain patterns of her unique quilt designs, described her techniques and shared many samples of her work. Pullman Civic Theatre’s next production, Marvin’s Room, a dark-comedy about the antics of an estranged family coming together with the discovery of a family member’s terminal illness, will run Oct. 8, 9, 14, 15, 16 at 7:30 p.m. with matinees Oct. 10 and 17 at 2 p.m. The production will be at PCT’s Nye Street Theatre. Lamont Last Sunday, Ted and Priscilla Clark and their five children, missionaries from Morelia, Mexico, and Eldon and Judy Clark from Moses Lake were guests at the Lamont Community Church. The Palouse branch library will resume weekly storytimes Friday, Sept. 17 at 1 p.m. The program spotlights early language skills, letter recognition, math, science, and social skills. Fun stories, crafts, songs and finger plays help young children learn. “Once a child gets into the library, they are likely to find a book that interests them, which is half the battle of getting them to read,” said Palouse Librarian Holly White.
