More than 30 members, parents and friends worked from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Trucks, tractors, shovels and wheel barrows were busy tearing down old fence, building new fence, removing buildings, trimming trees, cleaning up debris around public buildings and much more. Whitman County Library’s penny drive this year raised $1,262 with proceeds designated for weekly children’s programs, special guests, crafts and incentives. For the fifth year in a row, Vicki Hatley’s daycare won the Colfax classroom competition, securing more than $500 for the library. Stanley and Lois Horner celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary June 2 at Harbor Crest Retirement Center in Spokane where they have resided since 2006. They were married in Tekoa and lived in Tekoa where Stan was employed with the Union Pacific Railroad. They moved to Bayview, Idaho, in 1965. Stan retired in November 1976, to conclude a 37-year career with the railroad. They have two children, Robert and Lucy Horner of Palm Bay, Fla., and Vicki and Tim St. John, Tekoa. Dusty Fran Jones recently returned from her winter home in Arizona. She took “the long route home” having made a trip to Burlington, Vermont, to attend the graduation ceremonies of grandson Abel Jones, son of Bruce and Johanna, who received a degree in business administration from St. Michael’s College. Lamont Last Saturday, Owen Swannack, accompanied by his dad, Art Swannack, attended the Centennial Celebration of the Cub Scouts at the fairground in Spokane. Owen is in the Wolf Pack and next year he will advance to the Webelos. He won the award for the Best Design of the cars in the Pinewood Derby. Tickets for railroad speeder car rides in the Potlatch and Palouse area are now on sale for July 10.
