Tickets for railroad speeder car rides in the Potlatch and Palouse area are now on sale for July 10. The Washington, Idaho and Montana Railway History Preservation Group (WIM HPG) sponsors this yearly event to raise funds for restoration work at the Potlatch Depot. Grade school students in Oakesdale set a goal of $50 and collected more than $80 for the library penny drive. Librarian Michele Wright will host a reward pizza party at the end of the school year. Oakesdale Library received about $115 in total donations. LaCrosse Lacrosse May 29 and 30 will host mud racing once again in its new expanded location. McGregor Company donated use of their land just west of LaCrosse. Two full days of action packed mud bog racing for trucks and ATV’s. New this year is mud drag racing. Participants are welcome with classifications from stock to pro’s. Entry fee is $20. Meet Amy McNelly When Amy McNelly was 15 months old, her father finished his degree at WSU and the family moved away from Pullman. It wasn’t until 2006 that Amy found herself back on the Palouse, this time with her own family in tow. “I never thought I’d be back in Pullman again,” she confessed. Youngsters in Vicki Hatley’s day care were honored with an ice cream party with the library’s Reading Bear Thursday for being the winner of the Whitman County Library penny drive for the fifth year in a row. They raised more than $500 this year and a total of $1,181 over the last five years. Vicki credits parents of all the kids who attend her day care along with friends and family who also contributed to the drive.
