Carl and Marilyn Vannice Ray celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary March 26, 2010. They were honored on their anniversary with a large surprise party of family and friends by their children at the home of their son and daughter-in-law in the Colbert area. Both graduated from Colfax High School and went to Eastern Washington University. After Carl graduated they moved into Spokane where Carl spent his whole teaching career in the Mead School District. That early learning instilled a love in her so Myrna lists her hobbies as fishing, cooking and gardening. “With my grandkids first of all,” she added. Fans of big band music and Tekoa’s Empire Theater marked a rollicking night Saturday when the Master Class Jazz Orchestra from Spokane played a full program. Ten residents of the St. John area have already taken advantage of a variety of instruction through the Whitman County Library’s WORC programs. The grant funding will provide additional Friday hours at the St. John Library. Let librarian Clancy Pool know of computer time needs for job searching. Fifth teen dance set Friday at fairground The fifth annual county teen dance will be Friday, April 9, from 8 to 11:30 p.m. at the Palouse Empire Fairground. The $5 admission fee will help fund the programs of 4H and Whitman County Library, including the Teen Advisory Board scholarship program which provide $25 to board members with two advisors being drawn for larger scholarships. Oakesdale Orders for Oakesdale birthday community calendars are being taken by Brenda McFarling at the school until April 15. Changes should also be submitted. Lacrosse LaCrosse teachers, Mike Jones and RaeAnn Fleming, are in the process of organizing a trip to Washington, DC. Students will have the opportunity to tour Washington, DC and surrounding historical sites. The trip will take place in the summer of 2011. Hooper Keith and Carla Danielson enjoyed a visit from their granddaughters, Ali, Jill and Kate Mock as well as the girls parents, Tim and Erin Mock of Vancouver, March 24 - 26. The group was joined by Carla’s parents, Hugo and Carlene Pawlik from Pomeroy, to celebrate Jill and Kate’s second birthday. Ali was able to stay a few extra days with her grandparents in Hooper before going home later in the week. Dusty Kurt Moore, son of Steve and Carol Moore, joined a group of 10 Onecho Bible Church Junior High boys on an eight day trip to the Grand Canyon last week. They traveled down through Idaho, toured Salt Lake City, a number of national parks and took a helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon. Chaperones were Todd Kinley and Pat Wuestney. They returned home Saturday night. Many attended the funeral service Monday for Matthew Cochran at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Colfax. Cochran lost his life in an avalanche last week.
