    Nearly 80 youngsters said “No” to TV watching during April to meet the Whitman County Library’s five -day TV free challenge. e.U.S. researchers report toddlers who watch too much TV may struggle in school later, with measurably lower scores in math. Less surprisingly, children who watched too much TV weigh more and ate more snacks and soft drinks than those whose TV viewing time is limited.     Bubbillusionist Jarom Watts will tour 10 grade schools from May 19-21 to kick-off Whitman County Library Summer Reading 2010. This year’s Summer Reading theme is “Make a Splash – Read!” Programs are packed with exciting guests, activities and books.     The performing arts classes at Endicott-St. John Middle School will put on a pair of plays next Wednesday, May 19. “How the West Was Really Won” will take the stage in the school gymnasium at 7 p.m. and “Tom Sawyer” will be performed in the multi-purpose room at 8 p.m. Students have been prepping sets and rehearsing for the plays under direction of teacher Mary Bertrand for the past three months.     Senior portraits from the Gar-Pal class of 2010 will be displayed in the window of the Palouse Library beginning May 20 until June 2. Thirty-two seniors will graduate June 4. An exhibit from Nancy Hegg’s mixed-media art class will be on display inside the library.     Three local schools were honored recently for their work in ensuring all students graduate with a full set of skills, regardless of their societal standing.
