Shelby, Joy and Mallory Puckett Attending school in Tekoa must have been a good experience for Joy Heaton Puckett because she chose to return to her hometown to raise her own family. “I wanted to see my kids go through this school district,” she said. Musical performances set at Garfield, Tekoa Garfield-Palouse Middle School players will present the musical comedy “The Royal Bachelor” March 24 at the Middle School and March 25 at the Tekoa Empire Theatre in Tekoa. More than 20 students will take part in the production. Eight enter Junior Miss Eight junior class girls have entered this year’s Colfax Junior Miss competition. They have been practicing for three weeks for the event which has been scheduled for March 20. Theme of the show will be “Expedition Junior Miss.” Each contestant has been asked to appear in some type of expedition outfit. Malden Library started the new year with a new program, “Knit Wits”. Every Thursday the group meets from 1 to 3 p.m. to learn, teach, and share their knitting and crocheting skills. Lamont Kay Dirks, a person who was raised and spent most of her life in the Lamont area, was made Citizen of the Year in Sprague at the Sprague Chamber of Commerce Banquet recently. Upon retirement from farming, she and her husband, Clinton, moved to Sprague. She taught in the Sprague Schools and when she retired from teaching, she served on the Sprague-Lamont School Board for some time. Lacrosse An exploratory meeting recently occurred in which an LLC for Lacrosse Community Pride was organized. The primary objective will be re-opening the grocery store for the community of Lacrosse. As the group moves forward they will be keeping the community informed through Gazette articles, local announcements and advisory meetings. The music students have been learning about African music and learning to play the instruments during the past month. Bridge Club was held recently at the home of Wanda Brown. Dusty Basil Basil, the formerly missing dog, is back home again. While her owners, Mark and Kathy Vogler, were gone, she decided to check out life in the big city. She hitched a ride with a Gonzaga student first to Walla Walla and then to Spokane. She spent the weekend making friends with Gonzaga students, watched a Zags basketball game on TV, lived in an apartment for the first time, and got a bath.
