    Homestead Ministries Friday partnered with Ambrose Christian School in Meridian, Idaho, to make up 10,800 bags of soup totaling more than 80,000 servings with the help of grades K-12, 30 local volunteers and Idaho Governor Butch Otter. The group took down all the product, spices, bags and labels for the assembly in four trailers.     Dusty native, Jon Pitts (1945-2018,) died last Wednesday, Oct. 24, at East Adams Rural Healthcare in Ritzville. Jon was the eldest child of the late Bob and Esther Pitts, local Dusty farmers. He grew up on the family farm, graduated from LaCrosse High School and attended Spokane Community College where he earned a degree in diesel mechanics and heavy equipment repair.     Homestead Ministries’ first event of the year was Friday at Logos Christian School in Moscow. With the help of 450 students plus some adults, their goal of assembling 10,000 soup mixes was met.     Many friends and family attended the memorial service for Dusty native John Krom at Onecho Bible Church last Thursday. Denise Kendall, Tacoma, drove over Wednesday evening, spent the night at the home of her sister and brother-in-law, Doreen and Tom Riedner, attended the services with them and drove back to her home the same day so she could resume her teaching duties Friday.     Art and Colene Sager spent the weekend attending the Prosser Balloon Festival. Flying Farmer friends from Alberta, Canada, and Oregon joined with their Washington friends.     Ed and Joan Broeckel welcomed their first grandchild, Andrew Mohan Harkishnani, born to daughter and son-in-law Jennifer and Anthony Harkishnani, Seattle, Aug. 30. They went to meet the seven-pound, 10 ounce bundle of joy on Thursday and were joined by aunt and uncle Amber and Dominic Lovotti, Boise, on Friday.     Dick and Helen Appel’s granddaughter, Beth Lohmeyer and her daughters, Kristen and Rebecca, visited the Appels for four days a couple of weeks ago so the girls could experience the farm and harvest as their mother had as a child.     The Gary Stueckle family arrived at the Parsonage Bed and Breakfast establishment on Friday, and stayed until Sunday for their annual get-together.     Amber, Kloey, Ellie and Nick Brink arrived at the home of their grandparents, Larry and Di Brink, July 1. They stayed the week and attended Vacation Bible School at the LaCrosse Methodist Church.     A week ago last Saturday, Lucky and Joan Myrick and son Rich Myrick traveled to Yelm where their grandson/nephew Michael Myrick, Mike Myrick’s son, graduated from Yelm High School and also earned an Associate Degree from Puget Sound Community College.     Dusty Thirty people participated in the second annual Palouse Art Retreat at Eureka Farm in Dusty over Memorial Day Weekend. Nadja Ochs Wilson, who runs the Northwest Art Center in Duvall, sponsored this event. She brought two teachers, Susan Jenkins and Laura Henion, as well as all the necessary art supplies.   • Sagers join tour of airplane factory

    Dusty Art and Colene Sager, along with guest Weston Kane, flew to Yakima Friday and joined a group of Washington Flying Farmers touring the CubCrafters factory. This company was founded in 1980 and has grown to 350 employees who turn out finished airplanes that are patterned after the Cubs of many years ago, although much improved. They are so popular that any orders today would not be ready until 2020.     Dusty Dusty B.B. Club celebrated its 90th anniversary as an organization at its annual guest luncheon last Wednesday, May 9. The luncheon, catered by Fonk’s, was in the Bettie and Don Steiger Center of the Colfax branch of the Whitman County Library.     Dusty Dick and Helen Appel hosted the Troop 400 Boy Scouts from Spokane Valley for an overnight planning meeting. Dale and Kimberly Gustafson joined them for breakfast at The Parsonage Bed and Breakfast Friday. They took a drive to Starbuck and the Lyons Ferry area where they viewed the site of the Columbia Pulp operation.
