Dusty Tony and Denise Kendall, Tacoma, were guests of Tom and Doreen Riedner from Tuesday through Saturday morning last week during Denise’s mid-winter break from teaching in the University Place School District. Dusty Homestead Ministries went to Orchards United Methodist Church in Lewiston Saturday and assembled 750 soup bags. Three hundred of the bags went to The Roc Rescue Mission, and the balance went to local food banks. This is the home church for Tom and Carol Jeffries, former Whitman County residents. Also helping were relatives of Jon and Angie Webber and the Vantrease family. Dusty The Homestead Team, consisting of Tom and Doreen Riedner, Greg and Gwen Nolan, Brian and Debbie Largent, Ron and Jody Conrad, Steve Camp and Gary Largent, left last Thursday morning for the “Feed the Need” event at Ambrose School in Meridian, Idaho. Despite the closed roads, freezing rain and four flat trailer tires, they arrived more than 10 hours later on Thursday night. Dusty Beth Christie and Loren Scaggs returned Friday from a week long Country Music cruise on a Holland America ship from Key West, Fla., to the eastern coast of Mexico. Country western musicians who performed during the cruise included Charlie Pride, Joe Stampley, Jimmy Fortune, Tanya Tucker, Brenda Lee and the Oak Ridge Boys. Overnight guest at the home of David and Phyllis Stueckle was their grandson, Jonathan Stueckle, who is in the United States Air Force, stationed near Boston. Dusty Ed and Joan Broeckel went to Brentwood, Calif., over New Year’s to visit Ed’s sister and family, Dellene and Kevin Burdsall. Dusty Sunday, Selbu Lutheran Church conducted its annual Bazaar Mission auction. Auctioneers were Kirk Wigen and Leonard Aune. The fundraiser for church-supported missions raised more than $3,200. Thursday, Nov. 10, several Dusty residents watched the Donkey Basketball games in the LaCrosse gym. Dusty Sunday, Nov. 13, the Country Bible Church celebrated the 90th anniversary of the dedication of the church building. The church started out as St. John's German Congregational Church. The church was built in 1926 after out-growing family homes and a former schoolhouse. In 1972, they withdrew from ties to the German Congregational affiliation and became an independent church known as the Country Bible Church. Dusty On Friday, Oct. 21, Homestead Ministries had its fall soup event at the Logos School in Moscow with 450 students filling soup packets for the needy in the area. The students put together 12,500 soup packages to make more than 72,000 meals. Help from 25 volunteers from the Dusty, LaCrosse, Colfax, Colton, Uniontown and Moscow areas helped accomplish this task. Dusty David Stueckle, who served in the Navy from 1951 to 1955 during the Korean War, joined 95 other veterans on an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., last week Monday and Tuesday. They left on a chartered flight from Spokane Airport at 8 a.m. Monday morning and flew straight to D.C. Bill Hughes from Endicott was also in the group. Twenty of the veterans were from World War II, and the rest were from the Korean and Vietnam wars.
