Dusty Blake Heaton received a Skype call from his grandson, Valente Reynoso Heaton, and his biology class at the Lancaster School in Mexico City. The class asked many questions about fertilizers, pesticides, chemical farming and summer fallow farming. They also asked how global warming would effect farming. It is very rewarding to have Valente share what he learns during the summer on his grandfather’s ranch near Hay with his class in Mexico. Dusty Steve and Dianne Appel went on a road trip to attend the A.F.B.F. National Convention in San Diego. They left on Jan. 7. They drove down the coast, stopping to see ocean views and the Redwoods. They met Ron and Kim Scholz for dinner one night in San Diego. Dianne was the Women’s Delegate at the Convention. They had beautiful weather with the exception of one rainy day in San Diego. Dusty Suzy McNeilly traveled east on Christmas Day and returned on New Year’s Eve. Flying into Washington, D.C., she was met by daughter Missy and grandson Gavin and drove to New Jersey to visit daughter Christina who is expecting her third boy. Suzy filled their freezer with baked goodies and dinners, got in as many Grandma hugs as possible, woke up to three boys pointing Nerf guns at her and then went on to Virginia. Dusty Mark and Kathryn Vogler spent Christmas Day in Seattle with Anna, Chad and Iris Assareh, their daughter’s family, and the extended Assareh family. They then watched the second in the L.B.J. series, “The Great Society” at the Seattle Repertory Theater with Sandy and Chris Mcdade, Mark’s Whitman College friends. Dusty Carmen Heaton recently spent a week in San Francisco where she and Summer Browner, publicist, assisted Heaton’s daughter, Heathermarie Reynoso, at the West Coast Craft Fair in the Herbst Pavilion. Reynoso has been designing and producing hand-made moccasins and sandals for the past 14 months. The fair featured around 150 crafters selling high quality, hand-drafted items. Dusty David and Phyllis Stueckle and Goldie Foss spent four days at Ocean Shores. Reuben and Judy Stueckle of Puyallup joined them for a couple of days. They returned home last Friday. Word has been received of the passing of Larry Click. He was a 1962 graduate of LaCrosse High School. His father, Glen Click, was principal of LaCrosse High from 1958 to 1965. Dusty The population of Hay grew by two last Thursday, Nov 6. Justin and Katy Heaton are the proud parents of Tru Nicole and Range Richard, born at Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane. Tru weighed five pounds, six ounces, and Range, four pounds, four ounces. She traveled with her daughter Debbie Hopkins and her niece Gayle Bonta to Sun Valley to watch “The Trailing of the Sheep.” This annual event commemorates the area’s agricultural past by running bands of sheep through town to join bigger herds the way they used to move them to new pasture. Dusty Steve and Becky Camp hosted a family reunion this past weekend for 68 members of the Largent-Lukins families, Steve’s maternal branch of the family. Special guests were Steve’s mother, Donna Camp, and her brother Richard Lukins of Portland. It was the first family reunion in 30 years. Relatives came from as far away as South Carolina and Montana. Dusty Art and Colene Sager spent a week in Loveland, Colo., at an International Flying Farmers Convention. A highlight of this trip was a bus tour to Glenwood Springs, Colo., for an overnight at a hot springs resort. The following day, the group rode Amtrak train back to Denver and a tour bus on return to Loveland. Both the bus and train ride had lovely scenery as it went through the Continental Divide in the Rocky Mountains.
