Dusty Blake and Carmen Heaton spent several days in San Diego where they met their son Christopher, Erica, Miss Blayke, Justus and Erica’s mother, Vivian. Dusty Art and Colene Sager and granddaughter Jullene Sager were in Spokane Saturday afternoon to attend the piano recital of their other granddaughter, Hannah Manning, Valleyford. The recital was at the Steinway Auditorium in Spokane Valley. All of the pieces were duets, many of them performed on two baby grands. Dusty A women’s book club from Seattle spent Monday through Wednesday last week at the Parsonage Bed and Breakfast here. While in the area, they toured Colfax, Palouse and Pullman. Saturday, Di Brink took her brother, Mike Stine, and Norma Gibson to Cheney where they participated in the Special Olympics track event at Eastern Washington State University. Dusty Jon and Li Ochs traveled to Washington, D.C., last week to attend the National Hydro Association Annual Conference and also to see their grandchildren. Li states that it was very interesting to see how hydro power is becoming more popular again. There were two hydro bills that came before Congress in recent weeks and both passed unanimously. Dusty Memorial services for former Dusty native, Kenneth Brink, will be Friday, April 19, at 1:15 at Tahoma National Cemetery, 18600 SE 240th St., Kent, with full military honors. He was the last surviving child of Dusty pioneers Otto and Gussie Brink. He served with the U.S. Marine Corps for 28 years. Brink, who died November 12, 2012, was the uncle of Joan Myrick and Larry Brink. Dusty Steve and Becky Camp attended the Harvesting Clean Energy Conference for the western states this month. Their organization, C Farms Energy, received an award as the Innovator of the Year for the state of Washington for their biodiesel project. They also both picked up the flu while they were in Oregon. News has been received of the death last week of Tony Balsa of San Jose, Calif. He was the husband of Dusty native Helen Scheideman Balsa. They had four children, one of whom preceded him in death. Dusty Art and Colene Sager flew to Moses Lake for a pilot safety seminar on Saturday. This is an annual event sponsored by Washington Flying Farmers, Big Bend College and the FAA. This seminar provides the pilot with the FAA requirements for the written biennial review. To complete the biennial review, the instructor must fly with the pilot and sign the logbook. While the seminar was being held at the Grant County Airport, a Delta Airline plane with 108 people aboard had to make an emergency landing. The airliner was traveling from JFK New...
Dusty Wes and Jen Claassen spent four days in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, celebrating their 40th birthdays and 17th wedding anniversary in mid-January. It was their first vacation in three years by themselves; no kidlets. After the Mexico trip, Jen went to Branson, Mo., from Jan. 17 through the 23 to spend time with her parents. Dusty Wednesday, Jan 9, nine members of the Dusty B.B. Club, and two guests, Alice and Margaret Mackleit, met in the parish hall at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in LaCrosse to make baby blankets for the free maternity clinic at Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane.
