    Hooper Conly Merritt traveled to Ketchikan, Alaska, Dec. 21 where he was able to go on a “Tiger Cruise” aboard the submarine, USS Ohio. His son, Thane Merritt, serves as a master chief on the Ohio’s crew. Accompanying Conly was Thane’s son, Ben Merritt, of Bremerton. They boarded the USS Ohio Dec. 22 out of Ketchikan and arrived in Bangor, Wash., on Dec. 26. Conly said it was a “once in a lifetime” experience.     Hooper Bill and Della Evans traveled to Kenwood recently to attend a celebration of the 50th wedding anniversary of Della’s niece, Linda, and husband Bob Brison. Friday of last week Bill and Della traveled to Walla Walla to attend lunch with granddaughters Lacey and Amanda Evans.     Hooper Keith and Carla Danielson spent Sept. 24-26 in Lynden where Keith was a guest clinician at the Cascade Horse Fair. His Horsemanship/Trail clinic and competition was well attended. The Danielsons hosted their final clinic of the season at Hooper Crossing Ranch Oct. 2- 3 with riders and horses learning how to work cattle.     Hooper A surprise 80th birthday for Sara Goude was at the Hooper Store Saturday. Sara worked at the store when it was still open as a general store and later ran Sara’s Country Store in Hooper.     Hooper Bill and Della Evans returned home Sept. 20 from a road trip through Idaho, Montana, Wyoming and South Dakota. Their travels were on the roads less traveled, and they enjoyed the many beautiful scenes found in those areas. Della spent four days at a writers’ retreat with Linda Hasselstrom at Hermosa, S.D.     Hooper Caleb and Lane Hannas participated in the Palouse Empire Fair. Lane placed with blue ribbons in both fitting and showing and market classes with his steer, while Caleb won grand champion market steer and reserve in fitting and showing.     Hooper Anna May Tobin returned for a two-week stay with daughter Sandy Minnick and family of Newport Monday. Sandy and grandson Johnathon brought her back.     Hooper Betty and Conly Merritt joined friends and family from Eatonville in Yakima for the weekend. They toured the Agricultural Museum in Union Gap and attended the vintage car show there.
