Lacrosse The much anticipated opening of the Grillbilly Café in LaCrosse has unfortunately been postponed again. Lacrosse The daughter born to Buggy and Chelsey Startin March 7, seven weeks before her due date, is in the neo intensive care unit at Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane. Named Hudson Jade, she is reported to be doing very well. Her projected release date will be right around her original due date. Her parents are staying close by in a hotel in order to visit as much as possible. Lacrosse LaCrosse Community Outreach was unable to purchase the Thrift Shop building that was auctioned Feb. 15. At a recent meeting the group decided to not take any action until notified to vacate the premises. For now they are open for business and are still receiving goods from the community. Great dishes and lots of Easter decorations are in stock along with large selections of teens and women’s clothing. Lacrosse On March 7 LaCrosse School will host the Whitman County Speech, Spelling and Math contest for fifth through eighth graders. Students county wide will compete in spelling, math, impromptu speech, persuasive speech or interpretive speech. The LaCrosse Chapter of FFA is selling pans of enchiladas by pre-order only. Lacrosse The Student of Character assembly for December was held Friday in the pit. It opened with the “try” award which was given to Gunnar Aune and Matt Stubbs. Academic improvement award was given to Mashayla Morris-Miller. Mr. Curtis shared that the school had placed second in overall academic achievement in the state out of 295 school districts. Lacrosse Santa will make his annual visit at the Teapot Cafe Saturday from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Juice and muffins will be served to the children and eight drawings for gifts will be on the agenda. Four of the gifts will be for girls and four for boys. Free pictures of youngsters with Santa will be taken. Santa’s visit is sponsored by the LaCrosse Business Association. Lacrosse Wayne Miller, manager of the LaCrosse Food Bank, will distribute Thanksgiving baskets Nov. 20 from 6 to 8 p.m. He said they appreciate the donations which help make the holiday baskets available for neighbors. Because of the Thanksgiving holiday, the food bank will be open a week later, Nov. 29, from 9 to 4 to distribute the commodities. Lacrosse Fifth graders Matea Enzweiler, Trey Fleming, Lauren Stubbs, Gunnar Aune and Blake Jones learned how to play Cribbage during Friday math periods in the fall quarter. Lacrosse The public is invited to attend the Whitman County Historical Society’s annual meeting Sunday, Oct. 28, at 2 p.m. at the recently renovated LaCrosse Market. Lacrosse LaCrosse All-Purpose 4H Club will have its first meeting of the year next Wednesday, Oct. 10, at 6:30 p.m. at the LaCrosse School library. Youngsters interested in joining the club are urged to attend. The club offers programs in beef, swine, horse, exploring, farm animals, sewing and shooting sports to children from kindergarten through high school, although some projects are limited to third graders and older. Lacrosse LaCrosse Community Pride has interviewed potential store operators who are serious about operating the grocery store and report they are getting close to making a selection. It is possible that the store could be open by late fall which is the board’s intent. Lacrosse LaCrosse fifth and sixth graders hiked to the summit of Kamiak Butte Sept. 13. They have been studying topographical maps and elevation in social studies. They found an elevation marker pounded into a boulder. They also found a geo-cache with a stamp of Chief Kamiaken and a booklet where they wrote their names.
