Lacrosse Bob and Leanne Bafus attended the graduation of their daughter, Samantha, from the University of Idaho Saturday. She has a business degree with an emphasis in human resources. They were joined for a celebration lunch by Jeff and Norman Bafus, and Cindy and Kim Pitts. All helped pack up her belongings and move her to Spokane where she started a job on Monday. Lacrosse LaCrosse FFA had a very successful year at the Spokane Junior Livestock Show. The show started with success in the meats contest where LaCrosse placed second. Team members were Jason Wigen and Cole Evans (tied for fifth individual), Jessica Guske (10th individual), David Alguea, Graham BeDell, Abby McGregor and Weston Miller. Lacrosse LaCrosse Community Pride plans a silent auction to raise funds for operation of the public section of the LaCrosse Market building. The auction will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the community part of the market which includes a meeting area, an area for DECCA students and the LaCrosse Branch of Whitman County Library. LaCrosse Community Pride is responsible for maintenance, utility, insurance and tax bills for that part of the property. Lacrosse Pastime Tavern hosted a pool tournament Saturday to raise money for the Eric Binks medical fund. More than $900 was raised with more than 40 people participating. Winners were Phillip Luft and Allen Thompson, first; Don Keeney and Dana Reserve, second; and Loren Fleming and Larry Brink, third. The 15-month-old son of Lyle and Cheryl Thompson of LaCrosse was diagnosed with cancer and is now undergoing treatment at Providence Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane. Lacrosse Residents of LaCrosse are invited to attend the LaCrosse Community Pride community follow-up meeting tonight, Thursday, March 20, at 7 p.m. in the Gathering Place at the market. Lacrosse LaCrosse Community Pride will hold a second community meeting at the Gathering Place in LaCrosse Thursday, March 20. A large group attended the first meeting with many ideas on keeping LaCrosse moving forward. Lacrosse The Student of Character assembly for January’s trait of respect through kindness was Feb. 12 in the Pit. It opened with the four K-12 teams playing a game similar in format to the Newlywed Game with LaCrosse school trivia questions. The Black Widows matched four questions to win. Lacrosse LaCrosse National Honor Society is selling carnations for Valentine’s Day. Prices are $5 for a single, $15 for a half dozen and $25 for a dozen. Deadline for orders is Friday. Lacrosse The Student of Character assembly for December was Jan. 8 in the pit. It opened with an announcement that students had collected $430 for a school in a third world country. “The Incredibles” team brought in the most money. The students had also collected 325 pounds of food for the food drive with the “Team Coug” group collecting the most food. Lacrosse Students in grades kindergarten through eighth grade will present the musical “Tom Sawyer” Thursday, Jan. 16. There will be a matinee at 1 p.m. and an evening performance at 6:30 p.m. The musical is approximately 50 minutes in length. The musical was written by Mary Donelly and George L.O. Strid. There are 20 main characters, including Tom Sawyer played by Jordanne Webb and Becky Thatcher played by Autumn Meyers. Lacrosse The FFA episode for the new “Washington Grown” series will include a feature on Lane Hannas who graduated from LaCrosse last year. A camera crew followed him around the Junior Livestock Show at Spokane last spring. The 13-part series is now running on Northwest Cable News and airs every Sunday night at 8 p.m. The FFA episode has been slated for Dec. 22, although a cable news representative said the program dates could change. Lacrosse LaCrosse seniors will have a hamburger feed Friday beginning at 6 p.m. before the football game in LaCrosse. The menu includes hamburgers, pasta salad and cookies. Lacrosse The silent auction to benefit LaCrosse Community Pride featured 83 items and proceeds were estimated at $3,880. Purpose of the auction was to raise funds for annual expenses, such as utilities, taxes and insurance plus cover the expenses due to general repairs and maintenance for the DECA, which is a student business center, library and The Gathering Place which is a community center. Lacrosse A new event for Farmers Festival will be the Mr. Lacrosse competition in the high school pit area June 14. High School candidates will compete in fitness, talent, question and answer and formal wear. All proceeds will go the Richard L. Lacrosse Wayne Miller, president of the LaCrosse Community Outreach, announced that US Bank has gifted the Thrift Shop building to the Outreach. “We are mighty grateful to US Bank,” Wayne said. “Their generosity assures the continuation of the food bank.” The Thrift Shop will continue to offer the community gently used clothing for everyone, kitchen items and collectables. “You name it, we probably have it,” Charlotte Honn, the store manager, stated. Lacrosse Selbu Lutheran Church Sunday School will host a Mother’s Day pancake breakfast May 12 from 9 to 9:45 p.m. The breakfast is free. The Rev.
