LaCrosse LaCrosse Community Pride volunteers have started cleaning the basement of the former LaCrosse Market. Salvaged metal will be sold and added to the fund raising effort. Mike Webb of Empire Foods in St. John has donated freezers to the LaCrosse Community Pride grocery store. The freezers are in excellent condition and were available because Webb is remodeling his store. Repair work on the roof is the first priority. LaCrosse Palouse Empire Fair premium books are now available. Residents can pick up a copy at the Bank of Whitman in LaCrosse. Anyone interested in purchasing wristbands for the fair can contact Taylor Weekes or Hillary Bennett. The cost is $15 for adults and $5 for youths. Donation jars are available in town for the Honor Flight. Tollie Wise would like to participate in this very worthwhile program. LaCrosse LaCrosse Outreach Thrift Store will have a Christmas in July $2 Bag sale July 28 through July 30, from 1 to 4 p.m. Outreach plans to offer a bag sale four times a year. Christmas decorations, winter coats, sweat shirts and other items will be featured. Any child ages 12 and under, who would like to enter the Palouse Empire Fair Coloring Contest may pick up an entry at the LaCrosse branch of the Bank of Whitman. LaCrosse Gayle and Nancy Startin, Eric and Lois Startin, all of LaCrosse, and Brandon and Jill Startin of Airway Heights planned to celebrate their anniversaries June 24 at the Olive Garden Restaurant in Spokane. At the last minute, Brandon was called out to transfer a plane to Missoula, Mont., so he was unable to join the other five for dinner. On that day, Gayle and Nancy had been married 59 years, Eric and Lois 31 years and Brandon and Jill 1 year. It is a rare occasion for three generations to share the same anniversary date. Lacrosse Lots of activity and fun is planned for this weekend and Farmers’Festival. Friday night the Tigercat football team will host a 5-on-5 Passing Tournament at the football field starting at 4:30. The varsity and junior varsity teams will host the Touchet Indians, the Kendrick Tigers and the Liberty Patriots. Lacrosse The population of Hay was quadrupled Sunday of Memorial weekend. Eighty relatives gathered at the home of Dan and Jeannine Larkin. Guests arrived from Oregon, Idaho and each corner of Washington. Twenty-two guests were under the age of nine. Todd Curtis, Ed and Nicki Lettenmeir, Dennis Moore, Larry Curtis, Dan and Jeannine Larkin, Joe, Dionne and Cole Evans and Larry and Bev Dodge volunteered their time cleaning the cemetery and repairing the Church at Hay which was damaged during a recent wind storm. LaCrosse The LaCrosse All-Purpose 4H Club spent Memorial Day helping Gayle Startin with many projects at the city farm. More than 30 members, parents and friends worked from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Trucks, tractors, shovels and wheel barrows were busy tearing down old fence, building new fence, removing buildings, trimming trees, cleaning up debris around public buildings and much more. LaCrosse Norma Gibson, Mike Stine and Ron Hopkins participated in the Spring Special Olympic games at Eastern Washington University. Eddie Thompson was on the injured list with at pulled muscle sustained during practice. Norma won a gold medal in the 100 meter walk and a silver in the shot put. Mike won a silver medal in the 100 meter walk and fourth in the shot put. Ron placed fourth in the shot put and sixth in the 100. LaCrosse Lacrosse May 29 and 30 will host mud racing once again in its new expanded location. McGregor Company donated use of their land just west of LaCrosse. Two full days of action packed mud bog racing for trucks and ATV’s. New this year is mud drag racing. Participants are welcome with classifications from stock to pro’s. Entry fee is $20. Lacrosse The Community Pride Committee will have a cleanup work day at the grocery store Saturday, May 15, at 9 a.m. Any resident who would like to assist is more than welcome to join in. The committee plans a fund-raiser to help meet expenses of getting the store up and running. Lacrosse LaCrosse Community Pride committee plans a cleanup day at the store Saturday, May 15, at 9 a.m. The committee encourages interested residents to come and participate. Mary Bertrand, president, reported on the status of the LaCrosse Arts Council. It was formed to serve the needs of the citizens of LaCrosse and surrounding communities and was initiated in 2005. LaCrosse A bag type sale will be Friday, April 16 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Community Club building. Last Friday several students participated in the Jump-A-Thon sponsored by the American Heart Association and LaCrosse NHS. Lacrosse LaCrosse teachers, Mike Jones and RaeAnn Fleming, are in the process of organizing a trip to Washington, DC. Students will have the opportunity to tour Washington, DC and surrounding historical sites. The trip will take place in the summer of 2011. LaCrosse Members of the LaCrosse High School class of 1960 is planning a 50 year reunion. It will include the usual Farmer’s Festival events but in September the class is going on a cruise aboard the Amsterdam, of the Holland America Line out of Seattle. They have invited all LHS alumni, friends and family to join them. LaCrosse The grocery store committee has been meeting on routine basis. The grocery store will be a nonprofit entity. A request to the Town of LaCrosse to consider starting up a Public Development Authority, similar to the towns of Odessa, Republic, Ritzville, Garfield and Uniontown, was drafted and sent to the city council for consideration. If the town elects not to enact a PDA, the grocery store committee has indicated they will file a nonprofit LLC for the grocery store. Lacrosse An exploratory meeting recently occurred in which an LLC for Lacrosse Community Pride was organized. The primary objective will be re-opening the grocery store for the community of Lacrosse. Lacrosse LaCrosse Business Association met at the TeaPot Cafe Jan 13. The main topic of discussion was Santa and how his visit went in December. More than 50 kids came to visit and have a light breakfast of muffins and juice. Overall it appeared the day went well. Farmers Festival date for 2010 was confirmed as June 19.
