    COLFAX — A bid of $198,000 is in to crush 40,000 tons of rock at the Whitman County-owned Cherry Cove quarry north of Winona. County commissioners opened two bids Monday for the gravel project. Lewiston-based DeAtley Crushing Company submitted the low bid. Seubert Excavators, of Cottonwood, Idaho, bid $213,160. By law, commissioners take the lowest qualified bid. Commissioners intend to award the project March 1, after a standard review....

    COLFAX - A Colfax city park will likely get a new name. The city council briefly discussed a request by the parks board on behalf of the McClintock family on Feb. 16. They asked to add the name Lynne to "Stan McClintock Lookout Park" on Valley View Ave. Lynne, the late Stan's wife, worked with him and their children Don, Lori and Trudy, on the city parks system.   • Sentence in attempted church arson

    ROSALIA — Samuel Owens, 45, of Rosalia, pleaded guilty Feb. 12 in Whitman County Superior Court to felony second degree attempted arson, according to a report by Pullman Radio News. Owens was accused of trying to burn down Community Baptist Church in Rosalia. He was sentenced to five months in jail by Judge Gary Libey. Owens was initially charged with first degree attempted arson. He was arrested last November by Whitman County Sheriff’s deputies after the incident at the church....
