    PULLMAN — The Whitman County Health Department is now supporting the return of elementary students to campus for in-person education. While the Pullman School District has constitutional jurisdiction over all educational matters, the governor’s coronavirus shutdowns asked for health districts to provide input to local school boards.     UNIONTOWN — A Coltan man has bought the former Eleanor’s saloon. Brian Greene bought the building earlier this month for $190,000.   • School remodeling meetings end

    COLFAX — Schools Superintendent Jerry Pugh reported that Dec. 16, was the last weekly formal construction meeting for the $18.9 million remodeling and reconstruction project. Small and “punch list” items remain, such as basketball shot clocks being mounted in the junior-senior high school gym, and replacing all 80 of the new lockers installed in the locker rooms because of a manufacturing defect on the latches.     COLFAX –– A fresh crop of survey markers have sprouted in fields along state Highway 26 between Dusty and Colfax in preparation of adding four passing lanes. According to the state Department of Transportation, the $11.5 million project includes four truck-climbing lanes to “address the platooning of vehicles behind slow-moving trucks.” The project would install two westbound and two eastbound lanes between Dusty and Colfax.     PULLMAN — A woman has been sentenced Nov. 20 in Whitman County District Court for shoplifting. For her conviction on third-degree theft, Gratia Doerr received a fourth-month deferred sentence of 30 days in jail, 29 suspended. She was fined $1,000, with $650 suspended.     PULLMAN — A homeless Moscow, Idaho, woman was booked into Whitman County Jail on Nov. 21 for charges of theft, burglary and two warrants after she was apprehended for taking items from Walmart without paying. According to the police report filed in Superior Court, Taylor Lydon, 30, was trespassed from all Walmart properties for life in 2015. Lydon entered the store to return a phone case, records show.
