MALDEN—The Babb Road Fire Recovery Group in conjunction with the Washington Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster and its community partners will open a Multi-Agency Resource Center (MARC) in Malden, on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 25 and 26, 2020, at the temporary Malden City Hall. The temporary city hall is located in the town’s park. The Malden MARC will serve Whitman County primarily, but anyone affected by the 2020 wildfires can come to the MARC for services and resources. COLFAX—Flu vaccines are now available at the Public Health Department, including the one for seniors which was in low supply last year. According to Deanna Claybaugh, Whitman County Public Health community health nurse, the health department has received several hundred doses of the flu vaccine for those 65 years of age and older. Shipment issues last year meant a lot of seniors did not receive the vaccine. The CDC recommends people receive a flu vaccine in September or October, before the flu is active in their area. COLFAX—After a moist June, July came in under-average for precipitation. The rain gauge at the NRCS office logged two precipitation events totaling 0.32 inches. The majority came from a thunderstorm early in month, dropping 0.29 inches July 6. July 10 added 0.03 inches. That puts July in the books for just over half the average of 0.56 inches....
STEPTOE—Two people were transported to Whitman Hospital and Medical Center Aug. 15 with facial lacerations after colliding with a moose in the Steptoe area. According to the Washington State Patrol report, Larry and Sharron Templeton of Spokane were traveling in a 2002 Cadillac DeVille northbound on Highway 195 and hit the moose about 13 miles north of Colfax. COLFAX—A woman who appeared at the Whitman County Sheriff’s Office allegedly while high was arrested after drugs were discovered in the vehicle she was riding in. According to the arrest report, Joann Nettleingham, 44, Spokane, appeared at the Sheriff’s Office Aug. 13 wanting items seized during a previous case. The Palouse Health Center has re-opened in downtown Palouse after postponing the re-opening due to COVID-19. The center opened Aug. 3, now part of the Pullman Regional Hospital Clinic Network, to be run by nurse practicioner Kristine Brenc and physician assistant Jennifer Davis. COLFAX—A burn ban was issued by Colfax Fire Department Aug. 3 due to dry conditions and high heat advisories. The ban is regularly put in place during the months of August and September which prohibits all open burning. The ban will remain in place until further notice, likely extending beyond traditional parameters to help minimize contact with the public. ROSALIA—A Rosalia man was booked into the Whitman County Jail Aug. 6 on a charge of harassment-threats to kill. According to the police report, Jacob Dickinson, 37, sent a text threatening another party to his wife after she spent time with the other party. COLFAX—A Clarkston man was arrested for methamphetamine and possession of a firearm after being pulled over for pulling a trailer with no license plates. According to the arrest report Whitman County Sheriff’s Deputy Tyler Langerveld made the traffic stop shortly after midnight Aug. 8. When he asked for the driver’s license, it returned as not valid. An Idaho resident was booked into Whitman County Jail Sunday for drug possession.
