Newborn uses new doors

Holding her two-day old son Leon, Leanne Wicklund enters Whitman Hospital and Medical Center through its new front doors Tuesday.

The newly constructed front entrance opened for the first time Tuesday, as the two-year old $19 million hospital remodel project nears completion. They are part of the new addition to the hospital.

In total, the remodel added a second floor, which expanded the emergency room and added 19 more patient rooms to the hospital.

Ground was broken on the project in May 2007. Spokane-based Garco Construction was the lead contractor.
