Dahmen barn books Nordic Spirit band
Nordic Spirit, a band playing Scandinavian music will bring two award winning costumed dancers to the Dahmen Barn for an afternoon concert Saturday, Sept. 5 at 3 p.m. The cost is $7 at the door.
This lively old-time dance music will feature traditional tunes from Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland.
From the Puget Sound area, this group has played together for 10 years.
Scandinavian cookies and coffee will be sold at intermission.
Hog Heaven Big Band will be back to play at the Dahmen Barn in Uniontown from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Aug. 22. Visitors enjoy both dancing and listening to the swing tunes.

Scout Troop 595
Eight scouts returned from Camp Grizzly July 25 after a week-long session. The scouts earned a total of 22 merit badges and other awards.
Adults staying with the scouts during the week were Scoutmaster Todd Scholz, Mark Clinton, Lance Miller, and Shawn McAdams.
Earning merit badges were Simon Nelson, shotgun shooting; Larry Jenson, geology; Cody Miller, archery and wilderness survival; Brandon McAdams, shotgun and rifle shooting; Austin Neu, archery, wilderness survival and leatherwork; Michael Clinton, wilderness survival, Indian lore, and leatherwork; Brady Wuestney, pioneering, wilderness survival, leatherwork, carving and swimming; Nick McAdams, archery, wilderness survival, leatherwork, swimming and carving.
Nick McAdams, Weustney and Scoutmaster Scholz also earned the Polar Bear swim patch for participating in an early morning plunge in Grizzly pond. Nelson and Brandon McAdams earned National Rifle Association certificates for outstanding marksmanship.

Wicklund son born
A boy, Leon Maxwell, was born Aug. 2, 2009, at Whitman Hospital and Medical Center in Colfax, to Leanne and Phillip Wicklund. Maternal grandparents are Sharron and Richard Hall. Paternal grandmother is Betty Wicklund. Weighing seven pounds, nine ounces at birth, the baby joins siblings, Jasmyne, Gage and Josie.
Andrus girl born
A daughter, Avery Lee, was born July 29, 2009, at Whitman Hospital and Medical Center in Colfax, to Jessica and Ben Andrus. Maternal grandparents are Darla and Brent Anderson and Les and Laurie Line. Paternal grandparents are Barb Andrus and the late Sim Andrus. Weighing seven pounds, seven ounces at birth, the baby joins sister, Olivia.

ART
University of Idaho’s Prichard gallery in downtown Moscow will present the work of Mark Klett and Peter Vincent, two photographers who have produced extensive work focused on the American West. Klett traces the influences of human interaction with the environment, and Vincent has a particular interest in car culture and its expression at the Bonneville Salt Flats. Aug. 19-Oct. 11.

All 14 branches of Whitman County Library remain closed for annual maintenance and cleaning through Sunday, Aug. 9. Due dates were extended so that no items are due during this closure. All website resources including free magazines and newspapers, the library catalog and the 24/7 librarian remain available along with the book-drops.
More than 150 businesses and individuals sponsored Summer Reading in 2009. The library’s website lists Summer Reading sponsors.
Summer Reading for adults and teenagers continues.
Whitman County Library trustees will meet Tuesday, Aug. 18 at 4 p.m. in the Colfax Library. The meeting is open to the public.
Pajama night will be Aug. 19 at 7 p.m. at the Colfax Library. Participants will hear stories, sing songs and visit with friends.
