Lamont
Harvest started in the Lamont area July 21 when Mike Engles brought wheat into the Revere Elevator. On July 30, Mark Bowman brought wheat in from the Bill Swannack farm for the first load into the Lamont Elevator. As of this writing, 90 percent of the farmers in the area are harvesting, the wheat is producing average yield, and is of good quality.
Allen and Diane Cook were overnight guests last Tuesday of their daughter, Sandi and her husband, Dennis, and children of Kahlotus. Allen rode on the combine with Dennis and experienced what it is like to harvest with semi flatlanders.
On Wednesday night, the Cooks stayed with Jack and Louise Armstrong in Kennewick. Thursday, they were dinner guests of their daughter, Donna Durand and family, in Hermiston. They returned home Friday evening.
Daily Vacation Bible School, at the Lamont Community church, consisting of Bible stories, songs, games and treats, concluded with a picnic at the St. John Park on Sunday. The youngsters swam at the pool while the older ones visited in the shade.
