Railroad signal sounds off and won’t stop

The railroad crossing signal on the south end of Main Street in Colfax sounded off Tuesday night and continued to sound off for over 90 minutes while Whitcom dispatchers scrambled to locate a person who could stop it. The railroad crossing on that end of Main has essentially been out of use since the Colfax-Pullman railroad link was cut off by the South Palouse River fire.

Calls were intially made to the Union Pacific who reported they had sold the railroad years ago. The unused rail line is now the property of the state Department of Transportatoin with Watco operating on the line.
