The renovation of the Colfax Branch of Whitman County Library is officially under way. On Monday, crews from Summit Environmental began removing asbestos from the library’s basement, including the public meeting room. Once the USDA approves construction and bidding documents, the project is set to go to bid.
USDA officials anticipate this process will take two weeks. The majority of funding for the project is being provided by a low-interest government loan from the agency.
Adult summer readers have until Aug. 31 to complete the program. Incentives for reading and reviewing three books include free drink coupons from Cottage Gate, Two Old Gals and the Daily Grind, along with coffee shops in the outlying towns. Finishers from the entire library district will be entered into a grand prize drawing for a Rosauers gift certificate.
Troll’s Corner Bookstore in the Colfax Library offers a variety of items for sale. All proceeds benefit the many projects and programs sponsored by the Friends of Whitman County Library.
