Dahmen Barn shows Colfax artist’s work

The September exhibit at Artisans at the Dahmen Barn in Uniontown features textile art creations by Tracy Randall of Colfax, a resident artisan since the barn’s grand opening in October of 2006. The opening reception for the exhibit, “Finding a Path to Embellishment” will be today, Thursday, Sept. 3, from 5 to 7 p.m.

The exhibit features wall hangings, wearable art and fabric boxes made from her handmade fabric and commercial fabric. The show will continue through September.

Randall earned a fine arts degree from the University of Idaho in 2001. She has a background in graphic design and web interface design.

Tracy’s projects take many hours to complete. She starts each project with her own hand dyed and batiked cotton fabric. Each art piece is machine quilted and then embellished with hand made glass beads, commercial beads and textile paint.

While attending the University of Idaho, she took every art class offered: ceramics, collage, drawing, mixed media, painting, photography, sculpture, and textile surface design.

“Why did I finally settle on fabric and fibers as my primary medium? Because fabric is so accessible and so tangible, yet in many of the processes I employ, the element of surprise is ever present. It never gets boring,” she said.
