Valley Quilts of Valor begins challenge project

Lewis -Clark Quilts of Valor is sponsoring a challenge project to honor men who have served in the military overseas, according to Sharon Ledbetter, former Colfax resident who has made her home in Clarkston for the past five years.

Quilters who want to participate are asked to make up quilt blocks with patterns of their choice using red, white or blue or a combination. The blocks must be 12 and 1/2 inches unfinished. The goal is to collect enough blocks for 690 quilts.

Blocks can be dropped off at Quilted Heart in Pullman, Strikes & Petals in Moscow, Becky’s Fabrics and Emerald Gardens in Lewiston.

They will be displayed until Oct. 31 at Becky’s Fabrics. The organization will then make up kits with 12 blocks, sashing, border fabric, binding and backing material in a Fazzari’s pizza box. Batting will be available for those who wish to finish out the quilt.

A sew-in will be on Veteran’s Day at Becky’s Fabrics from 9 to 5.
