Wind codes enter final stretch

Whitman County will conduct public meetings in the near future on the county’s new wind power ordinances.

A public hearing on the large-scale wind power ordinance will be next Wednesday, Sept. 16, at 7 p.m. in the Public Service Building in Colfax.

County Planner Alan Thomson said the planning commission will go ahead with the hearing, despite pending appeals of his ruling that the ordinance has no impact under the state’s environmental law.

A court ruling in favor of the opponents would put the process in reverse, Thomson acknowledged.
