Palouse wraps festival season

Palouse will again crank it up this weekend with the 27th annual car show, a parade, and even a launch of ping pong balls from the sky for Palouse Days. The celebration begins Friday night, 8 p.m., at the Palouse Tavern with live music offered by local band Clothless Sky, $5 cover charge.

The car show begins at 9 a.m. Saturday and any car of any age can be entered, said city councilman Mike Milano.

The show will be on the city park grounds; there is a $10 entry fee. Judges will award approximately 60 trophies in a variety of categories.

“People come in from all over,” said Milano who is heading up the car show. “[They] come in from Lewiston, Clarkston, Spokane, and Coeur d’Alene, Walla Walla and the surrounding area.”

The parade strikes up at 10 a.m., with Palouse EMS vehicles, local politicians and anyone else wanting to join in.

More festivities ensue after the parade. Palouse Royalty will be crowned on Main Street, followed by an egg toss and a ping pong ball drop by Dale’s Flying Service.

A deluge of colored ping pong balls will drop onto Main Street after the parade. The balls, which are free to pick up, are color coordinated for various prizes, including gift certificates, candy, and other items donated by community members.

“Just stand there and look at the sky,” Milano advised.

The Roy M. Chatters Newspaper and Printing Museum on Main Street will be open from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Palouse Lions Club will sell hamburgers and other festival food all day from their booth downtown and their building next to the park.
