Three county volleyball teams came up with big wins Tuesday. Colton and LaCrosse/ Washtucna booked wins against 1B foes in the first round, and the Nighthawks dispatched Dayton, in a SE 2B matchup.
LaCROSSE/WASHTUCNA, which graduated just three seniors off last year’s title team, dropped Touchet in three straight Tuesday at Washtucna, 25-17 26-10 and 25-9. Chelsea McKay booked 12 kills and four blocks. Gladys Martinez had 11 assists and 4 digs.
The Tigercats tonight, Thursday, will host Tekoa/Oakesdale at Washtucna in an early test between 1B and 2B powers.
COLTON in their home opener Tuesday came back from an 0-2 start to take Tri Cities Prep in five games. Coach Heidi Hawley said the Wildcats decided to turn it around in the third and fourth games and then won a battle in the short fifth-game decider.
Line score for the win was 21-25 21-25 25-11 25-16 and 15-13. Mollie Kramer put down the last point after a tip battle at the net.
Freshman Kaitlin Druffel had a big varsity start with 37 digs in the libero slot. She also hit 12-12 serving.
Mikayla Nygreen and 13 assists and Haley Moser had 15.
Kramer finished with six blocks and six kills, and McKenzie Heaslet hit seven blocks. Kelsey Moser hit 19-20 serving and put down six kills.
TEKOA/OAKESDALE dropped Dayton in three straight Tuesday in the opener at Tekoa. The ‘hawks, who are headed by Angie Rambo this year, rolled over the Bulldogs 25-11 26-20 and 25-11.
Desiree Chappell, who booked her first action for the season, hit 13 kills and four aces. Kaela Dewan hit five aces.
The `hawks Saturday traveled to Ritzville for the Broncos’ tourney with two middle hitters out of the lineup. They topped Odessa and then bowed to Lind/Ritzville and Reardan.
GARFIELD/ Palouse Tuesday fell to Waitsburg/Prescott in four games in a match which packed a lot of drama in the middle games. Line score for the win by the Cards was 25-16 24-26 27-25 and 25-12.
Annie Leendertsen hit 11 kills and five blocks for the Vikings and Missy Cochran hit 10 kills.
The Vikes will host their annual invitational tourney Saturday.
ST. JOHN/ENDICOTT moved their record to 2-0 after taking out Pomeroy in four games last Thursday. The Pirates took the first game 25-19, but the Eagles kicked it in gear with three straight, 25-17 25-13 and 25-11. Saturday’s home match with Wellpinit was stopped by the flu.
Rosalia had to cancel out of Tuesday’s non-leaguer at Liberty because of the flu bug. The Sparts are slated to host Garfield/Palouse tonight, but that match was in limbo as of Wednesday morning.
Asotin swept the Spartans last Thursday in the season opener for both teams, 25-20 25-12 and 25-19.
