LWK, Colton football teams roll up solid wins on the road

LaCrosse/Washtucna/Kahlotus and Colton both took to the road Friday and came back with power wins. The Tigercats hammered a new Sunnyside Christian team 56-6 in a rendezvous game at Burbank, and Colton defeated Salmon River 24-16 after rolling south across the Camas Prairie to Riggins.

Because Sunnyside Christian has been added to the 1B league this year, Friday’s win at Burbank gives LWK the notch in the new league campaign.

The Tigercats this week will attempt to move their record to 3-0 when they roll south to Echo, Ore.

Coach Jeff Nelson said he expects Echo will attempt to contain the LWK running game with as many as seven defenders up on the line of scrimmage.

Echo will host with a 0-2 record. The Oregon club also has been hit by the flu and scratched a jayvee game which had also been booked this week.

Against the Knights Friday at Burbank, the Tigercats rolled a 50-6 lead in the first half, and Coach Nelson was putting reserves into the game late in the second quarter.

Coach Nelson noted Sunnyside, which has moved to football from the soccer ranks, was playing their second game ever and the inexperience showed on the field.

Garrett Whitney booked 211 yards and 7 carries. He scored four times rushing and once on a reception. Garrett Blauert booked a 9-78 night with one TD reception.

QB Jack Aune upped his passing game to 6-14 for 118 yards against the Knights.

The Tigercats played the reserves most of the second half with Matt Stubbs, 12-86, and Sam Harder cooking the TDs. The game was shut down on the 45-point rule in the fourth quarter.

COLTON went up against the same Salmon River team that lost a week earlier in the opener at LaCrosse. The Wildcats jumped the Savages for three quick TDs delivered by Sam Robertson on the way to a 24-16 win. The hosts out-scored the `cats in the second half to cut the deficit but couldn’t catch up.

Robertson scored on runs of 62 and 40 yards. He added a third TD after reeling in a from QB Josh Straughan on a 60-yard play. .

Chase Druffel then scored on another Straughan pass for a 60-yard TS before the break.

Robertson, who had 10-139 rushing night, scored the last TD on a three yarder.

All Wildcat extra point attempts failed against the big Savage club. .

Dustin Rinker, Salmon’s 185-pound power back, put the Savages on the board with a 28 yard run in the third quarter.

Charles Jaramillo-Swan, the Savages’ big QB, rambled for 18 yards for their second TD. Salmon converted both two point attempts.

The Wildcats will get the honor hosting the first game in the just remodeled Kibbie Dome at the University of Idaho Friday night when Joseph, Ore., travels north.

ST. JOHN/ENDICOTT’s flu problems, which started to take a toll last week when they opened against Highland Christian, knocked them out of Friday’s planned trip to Harrison Flats. The Eagles called off the game after they counted just eight players at the end of last week.

The Eagles will take advantage of a bye this week before they start the league campaign next week against Troy.
